Gus Van Sant has been making films since the 1980s. During the time, he has been popularized and praised by Hollywood, yet despised and often ignored as well. The caliber of the work produced by Van Sant has brought the director into the mainstream and back into the independent marketplace, as he so desperately tries to make the movies he wants - without sway from studios, critics or even audiences. "Wicked: A New Musical" is no longer exclusive to Broadway - a visit to Hollywood Boulevard now includes a pit stop at the Pantages Theatre for a showing of the popular musical adapted from the novel by Gregory Maguire.
