'Dawn' lights up stage with human drama

There's something about framing words within parentheses that is as tongue-in-cheek as a jab in the ribs or a wink of an eye - something very relatable and humanizing. It's as though the writer were leveling with the reader: Here's what I know, and here's what I'll tell you. (0) comments

Tracked down on the street by roving female reporters with tape recorder in hand, the denizens of Paris in the summer of 1960 seem for the most part embarrassed by the question; it's too personal, as though they were asked if their sex life is good or how much money they make.
