In what seems an act of political farce on the surface, San Francisco voted at the end of March to ban the use of nonbiodegradable plastic grocery bags, becoming the first city in the country to take such a radical step. PROTESTERS don't deserve sympathy I cannot believe the gall of the student who complained that the university did not treat the protesters as adults ("Protesters relent under threat of suspension," April 11). A child who throws a tantrum in the grocery store's checkout line is not handed a prize for their misbehavior; he or she is quieted and threatened with punishment. (2) comments
Put this into perspective: My high school math teacher made as much money in a year as some professional athletes make in a week. Although I love sports, it doesn't change my disgust for the lopsided salaries of pro athletes. Football players Adam "Pacman" Jones and Chris Henry were suspended Tuesday morning for a full NFL season and eight games, respectively. (0) comments
