Bolton not fit to serve as ambassador

Barring a change of heart by Sen. Lincoln Chafee, R-R.I., the Senate Foreign Relations Committee should approve John Bolton as the next ambassador to the United Nations. This will leave confirmation by the entire Senate as the last hurdle between Bolton and the United Nations.

No Child Left Behind is apparently leaving a lot of children behind. The academic growth students experience in a given school year has slowed since the law went into effect in 2002, according to a study conducted by the Northwest Evaluation Association. The group, which develops tests for 1,500 school districts throughout the nation, reports that in order for all students to be academically proficient by 2014 - the goal of No Child Left Behind - students will have to make as much as three times the progress they are currently making.

Stop for a moment, put down the paper and take a look around you. What do you see? If you see a campus that is rich with diversity, with people from varied places, backgrounds and cultures, look again. At first glance, you might see a campus where minorities make up nearly 50 percent of the student body and 111 countries are represented, but is this truly diversity? Yes, you might have people from many different backgrounds attending this school, but take a closer look at what is going on.

When there is a robbery on campus, we don't call it an "alleged robbery." There might be "alleged" suspects, but we all believe the victim that a robbery took place.
